Europe follows on aircraft noise restriction.
2001-10-08 Following last weeks’ move against night-flights from London Heathrow due to noise pollution, the EU have announced that they have secured continental rights to impose operating restrictions in any case where it is thought noise pollution is in effect. The announcement came out of the International Aviation Conference in Montreal, earlier today. The two restrictive measures have come in quick succession, which suggests that the Heathrow announcement was indeed a watershed decision (2/10/01 Green Consumer Guide). The latter announcement is likely to see noisier aircraft facing a number of restrictions, such as time of day or specific airport measures. Any new restriction will be delayed whilst a preliminary assessment on aircraft noise is conducted, however the groundwork has been done for an imminent introduction.
