Bioenergy developing apaceMonday 20 November 2006
Bioenergy and renewable material production and sale in the UK has undergone massive expansion in the last three years, according to new findings from Defra and the DTI published this week. The report shows that there has been a fivefold increase in the sale of biofuels between 2004 and 2005, and production of biodiesel has developed at a similar rate during 2003 and 2005.
The positive progress experienced by the market underlines the potential development for innovative products in the industry.
“There are clear signs that the bio renewables industry is expanding in the UK and this is set to continue,” said Environment Secretary David Miliband. “In England, we have seen increases in the numbers of farms and areas of land producing non-food crops, with sustainable and competitive growth across supply chains. There has also been significant growth in the consumption and production of biofuels and use of biomass to produce heat and power.”
