Wind industry calls for ‘bold’ actionWednesday 05 October 2005
The UK Government has today been urged by the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) to bring in a series of new measures designed to open up the country’s urban wind energy potential.
In response to the Microgeneration Strategy, BWEA is calling on the Government to identify and introduce financial incentives for small-scale generation, revise planning regulations to reduce delays and setup costs, and establish a set of regional and national targets for energy created through microgeneration.
“We must urgently open up another renewable front; the power of wind from our homes, schools and offices,” said Chris Tomlinson, Head of Onshore at BWEA.
“The demand for small scale wind is growing by the day. The public, utilities and energy supply companies are showing strong interest and we have a good manufacturing base in the UK. What is now needed is bold action from the Government to put all these pieces together and help create a viable and vibrant market for small scale wind for our cities and towns,” added Chris Tomlinson.
