Waste-fuelled power plant gets green light

The development of a waste-fulled power plant in Cheshire has been approved this week, following the results of a public inquiry. The 95MW facility, which will be used to power a new Resource Recovery Park, will be built at Ince. The plant will have the capacity to process 600,000 tonnes of waste annually, which would otherwise have found its way to landfill.

Excess energy produced by the waste-fuelled plant will be put into the National Grid.

“We need to increase our use of renewable energy and to find solutions to the UK’s waste problem. This power plant will convert over half a million tonnes of waste each year into energy,” said Energy and Climate Change Minister Lord Hunt. “The Inspector recommended the power plant be granted consent after a thorough public inquiry. I am satisfied that the mitigation measures to be put in place will protect the amenity of local villages.”
