Firms in Europe’s most EMAS regulated nation, Germany, are beginning to benefit from the accreditation scheme following a new government directive. The move sees EMAS accredited businesses receiving less strict environmental inspection and waste reporting obligations. The decision is an obvious attempt to make EMAS a more attractive proposition, which is the focus of a new EU rule on registrations. Setting a good example, the Interior Environment Agency has gained EMAS, becoming the first federal authority to do so.
