Paint fumes targeted under new lawWed 02 Nov 2005 |
![]() Home Improvement Monday 28 February 2010 Painting and wallpapering in the home is often viewed as merely a cosmetic affair, however the environmental and health issues involved are now being taken increasingly seriously. Traditional, heavily odorous paints such as vinyl resins and petrochemical solvents contain ingredients which, when inhaled can cause a variety of complaints such as lung problems, headaches and nausea amongst others. Chemical based paints are not only damaging to health, but also to the surrounding environment. ‘Volatile Organic Compounds’ (VOCs) found in these paints contribute to ground-level ozone, which forms a major element of smog. Naturally produced paints provide the performance of chemical alternatives, without harming the environment or user. Formed from only natural products, these paints do not contain emissive compounds or chemicals. Also, the removal of natural paints does not require solvents or equally hazardous materials.
