Water

2005-02-28
A normal quality of living requires around 80 litres of water per person per day, when considering all it’s uses. However, in the West, this amount is usually around 500 litres. Therefore the issue of water conservation is not being approached as seriously as required.

With this level of overuse, the water-table is lowered, affecting future water quality and supplies. The lack of conservation with regards to water is summed up by The Environment Agency’s prediction that until 2011 only 20% of the growth in water demand will be attributable to population growth. The remaining 80% will come from increased consumption and leakages.

Certain water-saving modifications can be carried out on pipes and taps, yet the most effective methods are through changing the way you go about everyday tasks; such as showering, dish-washing, plant-watering, car-washing and flushing the toilet.
