Modern society expects to enjoy the benefits that a healthy and sustainable environment provides, and to leave it in a good condition for future generations. However, development of the environment changes the balance, affecting air, water, land, flora and fauna . Consequently, actions which are intended to be environmentally friendly, may inadvertently affect the equilibrium. Various services are available regarding these specific situations, in an attempt to preserve the ecological status quo.

Areas of focus are diverse, and include air pollution, coastal defence, waste management, water treatment and noise control, among others.
