Dining Furniture

2005-03-10
The vast majority of dining room furniture is make of wood. Wood is the world’s only renewable building material, yet human practices over the last 100 years have not been sustainable. The overuse of tropical woods has caused many problems, including deforestation, extinction of species (flora and fauna), soil erosion and the loss of genetic diversity. Therefore, when buying wood products it is essential to make sure that the source is sustainable, and tropical woods are avoided. Through effective management of logging and timber production, the long-term health of the rainforests will not be jeopardised further. However, to make this happen, current tropical products and their producers must be boycotted. Like most types of furniture, a good selection of quality dining room furniture is available second-hand.
