Gas
2001-09-07 Natural gas is composed mainly of methane, and is the cleanest burning fossil fuel. It has a low level of emissions in comparison to environmentally damaging high-carbon fuels, and a particularly minimal atmospheric emission of sulphur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Also, unlike coal, gas has no material end-product. Environmental issues such as acid rain and air pollution centre around the emissions that natural gas doesn’t produce, therefore a widespread change to gas for uses as diverse as household to motor would see a significant reduction in these problems.
