E-commerce is term which refers to any business that is conducted over the internet. The e-commerce industry is extremely fast growing, according to the following figures based on North American trends; number of small businesses that have websites – 2.7m, number of small businesses that conduct e-commerce – 1.3, e-commerce sales generated by these companies - $25bn. The level of growth is exemplified by the fact that the 1999 sales amounted to £7.5bn, and estimations that the number of companies using e-commerce is expected to double in the next year.
